Wow. I seriously have not posted in a long while. I will try to be more faithful in this area of my life... lol...
I have been very busy lately... working four days a week, taking piano and voice, studying for CLEPs, and trying to keep up with my bedroom and laundry (lol)... I can't believe it's already October!! I really enjoy the fall... and Christmas is just around the corner. :-) :-) I'm going to start my Christmas shopping this month, I like to do it early. :-}

I just got a 'new' piano, and I am sooo excited! It's 1948 Everett console, in very good shape. It was delivered today, and it's actually mine (as in it belongs to me, and will move away with me, when I move away Someday, whenever that will be)... after only having a keyboard (a nice one though) for three years, it is so much fun to be playing an acoustic piano again!!!!!! *wiggles with excitement*... :-) ;-) :-} ;-}

P.S. Today is my baby sister's 10th birthday... *sniffs*. :-)

Pirates of the Caribbean

I feel relatively silly posting about two movies in a row. But the number of newer movies I've watched this year is a record-breaker for me (I think it's 5 going on 6...and none of them were animated!!), and I had to mention the fact that I have finally watched Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl, and I loved it!! Very funny and witty, exciting, romantic, much fun! My sisters and I have watched it two and a half times in the last two days.
(random confession: I *did* close my eyes through the "scary" parts... lol... couldn't help it!)
(random confession 2: I'm going to see the sequel tomorrow. :-) )
(random confession 3: Orlando Bloom reminds me slightly of Errol Flynn...)

Spiderman 2

This past weekend I finally watched Spiderman 2, and I *really* enjoyed it! Way more fun than the original film, and with a much better ending! :-) Content-wise it was more family-friendly too... (I didn't have to fast-forward...) other than the typical "Stylized Action V i olence"... Anyway, I realize this isn't a review... kind of just a happy announcement/opinion... oh well! :-)

Vocal Class etc.

I had vocal class again, last night. Very challenging/difficult, but fun too. I had my range tested and it turns out that I am a Second Soprano (not an Alto, like I've always assumed), which was very cool! My teacher said some nice/encouraging things, one being that I have a good blending voice, and since I like to sing with others, that is cool... (I need to work on singing louder though...) We worked on some tough exercises (including singing Amazing Grace in two breaths... GAH! That is difficult!!), we also worked a lot on Ear Training... which is also very difficult...
Anyway, it was very enjoyable.
Afterwards, Daddy treated me and Nicole (another student with whom I've had fun in class) to custard at Murf's... yummy!
And since yesterday was our family's 2nd anniversary at our current house (It seems like just yesterday that a whole group of our wonderful friends helped us move in...! Such a lot has happened since then though...), we kids used it as an excuse to watch an I Love Lucy episode (in celebration of course)... :-)

Tomorrow, I have a packing job with the "Dependable Mover" company. :-) I'm looking forward to it!

"A Damsel in Distress"

I just finished reading A Damsel in Distress by P. G. Wodehouse. Wodehouse plots are of Shakespearean complexity (I always feel that Wodehouse novels should be subtitled, "Much Ado About Nothing", "A Comedy of Errors", or "All's Well That Ends Well"... any of those would suit any Wodehouse story... lol), with many humourous tangles, and plot wrinkles.
The writing style is charming (not "Elements of Style"-worthy, but that's okay) and very witty.
The plot has to do with a young man (named George Bevan) who falls in love with a young woman (Maud) who jumps into the cab he is in in order to hide from her brother. She has been in London trying to visit her boyfriend of whom her family disapproves. George is mistaken for Maud's boyfriend (by her family and servants) and hilarious complications ensue (many of them involve Maud's family's butler, Keggs and the page-boy Albert) until all the loose ends are wrapped up and a happy (and very sweet) ending is achieved.
I really enjoyed this story... and I highly recommend it. (I believe it was written around 1919... also a movie was made of it in the 30's... and while the movie is great fun as well, it really ruins the tangled Wodehouse plot.)
Fun, light reading, and British humor at its best. :-)

Saturday: I went to a wonderful Bridal Shower--- sooo much fun!! ;-), and my family and I also went to a small birthday party being held in honor of my Mom...

Sunday: I played offertory (it's nice to have that over with for a few months...), taught Sunday School (LOL! Always interesting....), and "babysat" my siblings while my parents went out to eat. :-)

Monday: I had Voice Class! I took a five-week voice class last October that I really enjoyed... this one is going to be about 10 weeks, and very challenging... it's definitely taking me outside of my comfort zone... which I'm told is a good thing... ;-) Anyway, I get to sing Holy by Nichole Nordeman, for the recital, so that is exciting! (I love that song... one of the other students is singing Brave also by Nichole Nordeman, which is a song that I LOVE!!!!... but I won't be jealous! LOL) For a lot of the class activites/exercises, I was assigned the soprano part with another g i r l... which was also most enjoyable, since I usually sing alto... (we're having our ranges tested next week... so that will be very intwiguing... ;-) ) Anyway... to make a lengthy story shorter, I had lots of fun. :-)

Tuesday (aka, Today/Tonight): My family and I are going bowling with some friends. I really enjoy bowling, although I'm not an excellent bowler by any stretch of the imagination, as any or most of my friends could testify. ;-)

Well... more later... I'm hoping to review a book/movie/CD sometime in the near future.... :-) :-}

If anyone has been wondering what I am up to currently or what I will be up to in the next few days here's a (probably boring) update. :-)
Today, since I have to substitute teach a Sunday school class (3rd-6th grade) for the next three weeks, I've been looking over the curriculum, and trying to figure out what I'm doing... GAH! (I've never done anything like this before, so it should be... interesting... Anyway, I'd majorly appreciate your prayers!)
Tomorrow I teach piano, and on Thursday I have an ensemble rehearsal (we're singing on Sunday)... Friday I work, and basically the minute we get home, we leave to pick up Dad and go to Green Bay where we'll be spending the night (so we can attend a morning wedding the next day), possibly visiting my cousin and then (I anticipate) spending time with friends (a.k.a. the bridesmaids and other members of the groom's family) at the hotel pool. :-) Saturday, I have to get up and ready bright and early (!) so I can do the hair of the two flower g i r l s (they're like 12 and 8, and they want "curly up-dos")... then the wedding is at 10:30 and IF we get home on time, we're going to a graduation party (in Milwaukee) for another friend. :-)
LOL! (Not to mention Sunday, which includes singing with the ensemble and teaching a Sunday school class)...
*wonders if she can maintain her sanity through the rest of this week...* *wonders what sanity she has to maintain*...

Anyway, if you read all of that you have to be my friend for life. ;-) :-}

Picnic

Yesterday's Memorial Day (church) picnic was SO much fun! It was a glorious time actually... I had mixed expectations for this picnic, but it was much better than I'd thought it would be.
High points included getting roughly two dozen kisses from little 2-year old Matthew K. and playing with his baby sister Mary, also playing with little Sophia V. and hearing her tell me that she loves me and that "we will never not be friends"... Awwww!! Not to mention a rousing game of Ultimate Frisbee, fellowship... and other things... Most fun! :-)

I went to lunch and shopping with a friend today. Most enjoyable! We spent most of the time at the mall, but around a half hour at Half Price Books (a used book store), although I could have spent a good couple hours at the book store! My that was fun! I got two books, The Case for Christ (by Lee Strobel), and When God Writes Your Love Story (by Eric and Leslie Ludy)... I am told they are both excellent books (I've already started both), so I shall probably post my unsolicited opinions when I've finished them. But anyway, a good day. :-)

I am so excited! It looks as if I'll be able to take a voice class this summer. The class will run from June to August. I took a voice class for 5 weeks last year, and I loved it! I have wanted to continue since then, so this is a dream come true/prayer answered!
Well, I'll stop rambling now, lol... but I will post more about the class after it starts and all! :-)

Here are my brief (but probably opinionated ;-)) and hastily-written reviews of 7 of the movies I've seen most recently:

Here's the um, "long-awaited" seventh movie. :-)

The List of Adrian Messenger (1963)
This is an extremely engrossing thriller/mystery. I don't want to give away the plot, so I'll only say that it has to do with a man who is given a list of other seemingly unconnected men, and told only to find out if those men are "still living at those addresses"... it turns out, they're all meeting their ends in mysterious ways, one by one. Anyway, there's much more to it, the plot and pacing are excellent, the actors who are given a chance to act do fine (there are at least 4 major actors in disguise), and I liked the script as well. It isn't exactly family-friendly as there is some non-gory (but rather gruesome) , and a couple instances of very minor language. But, I really loved this movie! :-)

Pride & Prejudice (2005)
I loved this remake of my all-time favorite fiction story! I don't believe it should be compared to the last (6 hour) version, but to the last Hollywood version of the story (from 1940), since I think it's unfair to compare a mini-series and a movie, and it's like two hundred and twenty-three times better than the 1940 one! If I were comparing this one to the mini-series this would be a much longer 'article'... so anyway!

Family Jewels
This is a cute movie in which Jerry Lewis plays 7 (?) different roles. A wealthy little orphan must decide which of her six uncles she will choose as her new father. There is a scene maybe half-way through the movie involving an airplane, and an inept pilot that is absolutely hysterical!

The Errand Boy
This movie (starring Jerry Lewis) is a very random collection of mostly funny scenes, held together loosely by a so-called "plot". It was fun, but the lack of plot and extreme randomness of some scenes, was a little odd.

Lifeboat
This movie (directed by Hitchcock) is an intensely engrossing look at a group of diverse people under "extreme duress", namely being stranded in a lifeboat during World War II without a compass and with a man rescued from the U-boat that sunk their ship.

Inspector General
This ("comedy") movie has got to be one of the most boring things I've watched in a long time. Starring Danny Kaye and centering around the story of an illiterate con-man who gets mistaken for a government official and must perpetuate the deception. This *may* have been more fun if it weren't for the approximately three super-long super-boring songs, and relentlessly unfunny script.

The Trouble With Harry
This film is a very 0ffbeat Hitchcock comedy-mystery. Despite it's un-typicalness (?) it was extremely entertaining, and there were many typical 'Hitchcockian' camera angles and such.
The plot revolves around a man discovered in the woods... d.ead. Practically everyone in town thinks they are responsible for his d.eath, and hilarious complications ensue.

And YES, I realize that that is only 6 movies, but I intend to watch a seventh tonight and review it later. ;-)

What have I been up to?

Of course I am assuming that a brief update on my life *will* be of interest... but I shall post it anyway!

Saturday (April 29th)- I went to an extremely (!!) fun bridal shower, and then watched a movie with some family friends.

Sunday (April 30th)- After a most wonderful time at church, I drove (taking the freeway-- major milestone for me, since I'm not a freeway "fan") to the Fireside Dinner Theater (in Fort Atkinson, WI) to see The Music Man with my parents and sister. Much fun! And an excellent production of a fun musical.

Monday (May 1st)- I went bowling with friends, Amy and Allison, (and Greta) we had lots of fun... then after supper we went to look at a house we are hoping to buy.

Tuesday (May 2nd)- I took and passed the US History I CLEP, then I had lunch and celebrated with the friend I took the test with (different tests, same time). That was SO fun! Then in the afternoon I ran some errands.

Anyway, that was a brief update on the last couple of days in my life (not exhaustive of course, just overviews ;-) ) ... probably boring, sorry! :-)

I am going to take the US History I CLEP exam tomorrow at 11 am... I feel totally unprepared, so don't be surprised if I post soberly announcing failure tomorrow. ;-) BUT, I would extremely appreciate any and all prayers... I am taking it with a friend (she's taking the Math exam) so if you could pray for both of us, that would be soooo nice! :-)

I went through my CD "collection" today... (it's small, but growing...)
But it struck me as amusing the variety of music styles represented...

* Oklahoma! (1955 film soundtrack)- one of my prized possessions. :-) I really love this CD.
* Winter Wonderland (Point Of Grace) - Point of Grace's latest Christmas album... I love the harmonizing and the all-around pretty arrangements on this one.
* The Ultimate Bobby Darin - a singer from the late 50's/early 60's... lots of fun/silly songs on this, and since it's my newest CD, it's getting played constantly around here. :-)
* Casting Crowns (Casting Crowns) - I really love the lyrics to almost every song on this CD.
* By the Light of the Silvery Moon (Gordon MacRae and June Hutton)- Gordon MacRae is one of my favorite "old" singers, and this CD, has some fun songs... and also some depressing love songs.... lol...
* Without Condition (Ginny Owens)
* Heavenly Place (Jaci Velasquez)- I can't unreservedly recommend all Jaci Velasquez music, but this debut album has some good stuff. :-)
* Singin' in the Rain (film soundtrack, Deluxe version)- 2 cds full of Singin' in the Rain music, what's not to love? ;-)
* Jaci Velasquez (Jaci Velasquez)- more Jaci...
* Crystal Clear (Jaci Velasquez)- Technically I only own the cassette version of this and I got it for a $1... so it's not like I'm some half-crazed Jaci Velasquez fan or something. ;-)
* Christmas (Jaci Velasquez)- This is actually a really fun Christmas Cd...
* Uspoken (Jaci Velasquez)- Okay... this is seriously my last Jaci cd... I'm not even a fan, anymore... although I was...

It seems like just yesterday that I (only 2 years old) climbed up the giraffe step ladder at the hospital and peeked in the window to the nursery to see my baby sister for the first time...she was (and is) SO cute!! It's been 18 very interesting and fun years... ;-)

I have been reading some really good books the last month or so... so I thought I'd post the titles and my opinions so far... :-)

Men in Black: How the Supreme Court is Destroying America by Mark R. Levin; this book is a New York Times Bestseller, and a fascinating look at the judicial activism and our Constitution. As of half-way through ;-), I highly recommend it.

Agatha Christie And the Eleven Missing Days by Jared Cade; this is the true story behind the famous mystery-writer's 11-day disappearance in 1926... a real-life mystery, and very engrossing.

The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien; This is my first time reading this... (I know, how did I not read this during my childhood?) and it's getting more fun... (I really enjoyed The Hobbit)...

A Damsel in Distress by P.G. Wodehouse; Wodehouse is one of my favorite writers, his writing style and wit are simply delightful, and this novel was the basis for one my favorite childhood movies. So I HIGHLY recommend this one. :-)

Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier; This 'adventure' novel is by the author of Rebecca and The Birds...it was written in 1935, and I love it so far. :-)

Benchley Or Else! by Robert Benchley; A humorist back in the thirties and forties, this is a collection of witty articles, some of the pieces are slightly "dated" but it's still a very funny book.

That's mainly all I'm reading... I read too many books at a time usually, but oh well. :-)

Crazy Week

This week has been literally insane... I have been working (since Monday) for a Moving Company (owned by somebody from church) as a "packer", at an extremely cluttered house. Today when I got home, I had a piano lesson to teach, and tomorrow more packing. Friday, I work (cleaning houses). Then I think I'm going to crash on Saturday. Anyway, no real substance to this update, but perhaps my busy week is a good excuse? :-)

This is my first post... at this new blog... I have two other blogs elsewhere... one that I don't update much, and the other occasionally. I'd like to try to make this a Mostly serious blog. Anyway, that's what I'm going to try, we'll see if it works.
